Phillips, Delbert E.      (September 2007)

Delbert “Del” Emerson Phillips, age 91, of Laona, passed away September 2, 2007 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rhinelander.  He was born April 14, 1916 in Porterfield, Wisconsin, the son of the late Howard and Katherine (Johnston) Phillips.  Del graduated from Marinette County School of Agriculture and Domestic Economy.  He was united in marriage to Grace Seymour on August 8, 1942 at the Harmony Methodist Church in Harmony, Wisconsin.

Del was employed by Consolidated Papers and the Laona School District.  He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, fast pitch softball and horseshoe pitching. Del was active in the Laona Lions Club for 24 years, treasurer of the Rainbow Gun Club for 32 years, former Director of the Nicolet Country Club, and was the Supervisor and Chairman for the Town of Caswell for 11 years.  Del was also an active member of the Argonne United Methodist Church.  Del will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Del is survived by his wife of 65 years, Grace of Laona; daughters, Paulette Novak of Argonne and Delores Bartelme of Seymour; sons, Richard Phillips of Marinette and Timothy Phillips of Laona; grandchildren, Shelley Gerritts, Rod Novak, Greg Novak, Steve Novak, Scott Bartelme, Kim Grelecki, Kay Goulette and Bart Bartelme; 14 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, George Lundeen of Laona; and sister-in-law, Helen Phillips of Elkhart Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Katherine; brothers, Austin, Jesse and Levi Phillips; sister, Harriet Lundeen; and two sons-in-law, Jerry Novak and Bill Bartelme.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Weber-Hill Funeral Home in Crandon. Visitation continued at the Argonne Methodist Church on Thursday, September 6 from 9 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 10 a.m. with Pastor Mike Herdt officiating.  Interment was at the Harmony Cemetery in Peshtigo at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 6.
